India strikes amid crisis:

Hurricane Thakte is described as the worst in 30 years in the western part of the country.

Winds of up to 49 meters per second are expected in Gujarat on Monday. In the Atlantic, this would be equivalent to a Type 2 hurricane.

Already this weekend, heavy rains and strong winds in southern India have killed 6 people.

On Monday morning, two emergency messages arrived from ships outside Mumbai as a result of the hurricane to the main rescue center in southern Norway.

– Receiving messages from abroad is very common because the system used is international and goes via satellite, explains rescue chief Otgir Anderson to Daclat.

He says 265 people are being evacuated from one ship and the other is being taken out of the water.

– Anderson says the rescue center in Mumbai coordinates the rescue efforts.

More than a million people have been evacuated, and authorities are working to ensure that hospitals treating corona patients do not have the power.
